FAQ

Common Questions Around Commercial Lighting in Florida

How much does a commercial lighting retrofit cost in Florida?

Cost depends on ceiling height, fixture count, controls, and after-hours labor. A small office swap can be straightforward. A warehouse may need lifts, new circuits, and control zoning. The best pricing comes from a walkthrough and a scope that lists fixture types and quantities.

Do lighting upgrades qualify for rebates in Florida?

Often, yes. Many businesses in FPL territory can earn rebates for qualifying lighting upgrades through the Business Lighting Program, with eligibility rules and equipment requirements.

Will new LED lights look too harsh or blue?

Not if they’re chosen well. Color temperature and glare control are part of the design. Many Florida
businesses prefer warmer tones in customer areas and neutral tones in task areas. Diffusers and optics
also matter.

Can we upgrade lighting without shutting down the business?

Usually. Work can be phased by area, done after hours, or scheduled on slower days. For warehouses
and retail, crews often start with back-of-house zones to reduce disruption.

Do lighting controls really save money?

Controls often deliver the fastest savings in low-traffic areas. Restrooms, storage rooms, and conference
rooms are classic wins. Exterior schedules also cut waste when lights run longer than needed.

What about storms and power surges?

If your site has repeated driver failures or control issues, surge protection and grounding checks are
worth discussing. Exterior fixtures may also need better sealing and mounting to handle wind and
moisture.

Are there federal rules changing lighting products?

Yes, federal efficiency standards for general service lamps have been updated, with an effective date
listed in the Federal Register and future compliance dates for amended standards.
